"Bowled over" by Help to Buy!
Engaged couple Danielle Bowling and Benjamin Atherton were renting privately when they decided it was time to make the move onto the property ladder. They had their daughter Bella, aged 20 months and another baby on the way in September so wanted the security of their own home for the whole family.
They heard about the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme from their mortgage advisor at Connells and decided it was an affordable way to buy a new home.
The scheme allows buyers to purchase a new home worth up to £600,000 with just a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is covered by an equity loan from the government, which is interest free for the first five years.
Danielle, a social worker and Benjamin, a transport manager still needed to save hard for their deposit so moved in with Danielle’s mum and step dad for six months which really made a difference to how quickly they could save. “I can’t thank them enough for that”, says Danielle.
They purchased their new home from Marble Homes at their Church Mews site in Barwell and love the fact that it’s a small development which is tucked away and feels like its own little community.
Buying their home with Help to Buy has also worked out to be cheaper than renting; a saving of £65 a month in fact.
Their friends and family love their new home. So much so that Danielle is pleased to tell us; “One of my friends has now reserved a home with Help to Buy and has moved in with her Uncle so she can save for her deposit too”!
