Two new arrivals for young couple who bought their first home in Birmingham
Young couple Amy Guest (23) and Ross Palmer (25) who have been together for 8 years bought their first home in Wollaston through the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme.
Their home buying journey began at a Help to Buy Show in Birmingham organised by Help to Buy Midlands.
“We came to the Help to Buy Show with an open mind and signed up to get a free mortgage advice appointment. We found the event so useful as it really laid the options out for us and allowed us to choose the most suitable home ownership path for our situation.”
“After the event things moved really quickly and we reserved a Taylor Wimpey property the following week. We even used the mortgage advisor that we met at the show from Xact Mortgages!”
Amy explained that the couple felt like the Help to Buy Show also helped them understand the Help to Buy process of buying a home through the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme by speaking with members of the Help to Buy Midlands team.
The Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme allows buyers to purchase a new home worth up to £600,000 with just a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is covered by an equity loan from the government, which is interest free for the first five years.
The couple chose to purchase a 3 bedroom detached property at Taylor Wimpey’s site Doulton Park in Wollaston. The plot that they chose overlooks the River Stour which flows through the development. There are also lots of local parks so it feels very close to nature which appealed to both of them.
Before purchasing their Help to Buy home Amy and Ross were both living with their parents. The house is still close to family but they are both enjoying the freedom of having their own space.
Amy and Ross reserved their property when it was off-plan so had a massive say on the features within their future home.
“A three bedroom property really appealed to us as we both have the option to work from home and wanted to have the space where we wouldn’t be under each other’s feet! The fact that the house was detached made it perfect”
It wasn’t long before Amy and Ross realised that their home didn’t feel complete without a dog. That’s when they welcomed their two spaniel puppies Indi and Bo to their new home.
“We absolutely love the house, it felt like home instantly. Getting the dogs was just the icing on top of the cake.”
Amy explained that the future holds plenty of long dog walks and enjoying every moment in their new home with no plans to move anytime soon.
